Sabine will never love again. Upon the left side of her face, beneath a bloodmetal mask, the tragic story of love and betrayal is there to remind her why. Thirty years ago, during the battles known as the Mage Wars, love betrayed her. During that time, the Blood Queen barely knew who Sabine was, and the Seven Sisters were yet known. There were only six of them at the time, and they were a small unit and part of the main king’s army.
Returning the orc Grimlaak to his adopted elven father’s home at Fox Hall, Sabine and the Nightshade can take a small break from their battles. Break? Not really. First they must adhere to Courtly etiquette. Then Sabine will need a dressing down from the king and worse… her own lira. Next they need to tell their story to the orcs. Visiting Grimlaak’s people on Orc Island, an island in the middle of the great Silvermane Lake, Sabine and the sisters must re-live that tragic time that gave the Nightshade leader the scars upon her face… and upon her heart.
In the time of the Mage Wars, Thanatos the Sorcerer was determined to break the magickal barrier erected by the mages of the king Laertes IV. And as the king lay on his death bed, both he and the enemy sorcerer Thanatos would make decisions that would forever alter the war with the Blood Queen, and cast the queen’s sights upon Sabine and her sisters. With the magickal barrier down, the usurpers could bring their magickal war machines north.
But Sabine Valkyrie would forever be altered, both physically… and mentally. Magefire if caught before it eats through to the bone, is extremely painful, and that pain never goes away. Like the pain in her heart it would never mend, and revenge would settle inside of her that would last until the day of her death. If not for the dwarven general, Fomdor Singingblade, Sabine would likely have died. She owed the du’alin her life. A debt she would be sure to repay.
Kiera, the wildcat cannot stand to see Sabine in such pain. Poised with a mission of revenge of her own, and without the knowledge of the others, Kiera infiltrates the enemy encampment to the south. Will she track down the traitor Jasen Valkyrie, or will she serve only to get her sisters into further trouble when they finally discover what the wildcat is up to? According to the mantika cards read for Marlaya by the goddess Cerridwen, although the future looks dire, their end assured, like the Phoenix redemption would rise from death’s ashes. Join the sisters in this second story called Magefire, a tale of love, betrayal and heroism moving them ever closer to their destiny.
